Best feet forward for Ormskirk’s new School Pastors!

Ormskirk’s new School Pastors – the first in Lancashire – took their first steps in Sept 2019 as they started to ‘patrol’ Ormskirk.

Seven of the 20 volunteers are pictured on Thursday afternoon at the top of Church Street before starting a patrol in the town centre; some of them might be familiar faces as Street Pastors, who patrol Ormskirk town centre each weekend, but for all 20 School Pastors it’s a brand new experience as they seek to ensure pupils of all ages have safe journeys home during term times.

Ormskirk School and St. Bede’s fully support the initiative and year 6 pupils from ‘feeder’ schools all heard about the School Pastors work in special assemblies in Ormskirk and Aughton.

Dave Mutch who leads up the team said: “It has been very encouraging to get such positive feedback from both secondary schools and great to meet the pupils on the street.”

All the team have undergone a full training program including Safeguarding and they are all DBS cleared.

“Ormskirk has the first School Pastors in Lancashire and we’re looking forward to the difference we can make for the safety and well being of children in the town,” added Dave.

Both the local police and council are fully behind the initiative.
